With recreational and medicinal marijuana being legalized in New Jersey, new businesses such as dispensaries have been trying to establish themselves in the Garden State. Terrapin, a Colorado-based cannabis dispensary, is the latest dispensary to be approved by Hoboken officials to open a medical marijuana dispensary in the Mile Square at 86 River Street.

Marijuana in New Jersey

In February 2021, New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy signed three new laws that legalized the regulated use of marijuana. The New Jersey Cannabis Regulatory Commission has oversight of the new laws, permitting, and taxation at the state level. Municipalities had until August 21, 2021, to determine their cannabis regulations at the local level. The City of Hoboken adopted several new provisions permitting cannabis-based businesses to operate. The Terrapin ATC is the first business to be approved through the new laws.

Another provision of the laws passed by Gov. Murphy was a process for the expungement of marijuana-related arrests on New Jerseyian’s criminal records. Attend a clinic on how to manage the process here in Hudson County, hosted by the Hudson Pride Center.
